SomatoDrama®
The Essence of the Method
SomatoDrama® is a self-awareness and self-healing method developed by Dr. Laszlo BUDA. Its main characteristics are simplicity, playfulness, naturalness, emotional richness, and effectiveness.
The word “somato” refers to focusing on our bodily experiences, symptoms, and illnesses during the games, allowing the body’s wisdom to guide the awakening of our consciousness.
“Drama” in this context means overcoming internal obstacles to healing and moving closer to the desired physical and mental harmony through live, real-time encounters, conflicts, emotional experiences, and immediate action.

The direct goal of the Healing Play used in SomatoDrama is not to cure physical symptoms or solve psychological problems but primarily to engage in play, discover deeper physical and mental interconnections, resolve alienation from our bodies, experience self-acceptance and self-love, and remove obstacles to natural self-healing processes.
The SomatoDrama method enables us to encounter hidden, often painful feelings that unconsciously direct our lives and manifest as physical symptoms and illnesses.
How the Method Works
SomatoDrama operates on the principle that projecting, deeply understanding, and creatively transforming our perceptions of our bodies can initiate self-healing processes. This can be achieved through personal connection, loving acceptance of body messages, emotional release, and reorganizing situations revealed in the game.
The group SomatoDrama Play begins with a bodily theme from one of the participants, who becomes the main character. During the drama play, the other participants are asked to play the affected parts of the main character’s body, bringing the interactions and processes of the body parts to life on stage. Through this ‘projection’ into space, the internal experiences becomes external, visible, tangible, and deeply felt.
During the play, participants are overwhelmed by inexplicable feelings that shift the overall picture into a new perspective. The dramatic unfolding often reveals emotional, relational, and spiritual conflicts.
In resolving these conflicts, we always rely on the ‘wisdom of the body,’ which we help bring to the surface by encouraging intuitive and instinctive movements, sounds, and emerging communication urges.
The main character almost always makes surprising discoveries about how their past, memories, relationships with loved ones, and beliefs are embedded in the network of their cells and organs. Insights that could not be found in any book are born during the plays, often accompanied by deep emotional reactions and cathartic emotional releases.
This emotional experience helps us discover the connections between our inner world, belief systems, and physical symptoms. It facilitates for the release of emotional stagnation and tensions.
Using our body’s guidance and information medium, SzomatoDrama helps us build an honest, resilient, and loving relationship with ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.
